Like millions of sports fans around the world, we've always loved following the big tournaments — World Cup, Champions League, NBA Playoffs, the Grand Slams. And whenever a major competition rolled around, the same ritual would begin: someone would set up a prediction league, everyone would chip in their forecasts, and the trash talk would begin.
The problem? The tools available were never quite right. We'd end up with complicated Excel spreadsheets, hand-drawn bracket tables, and someone manually updating scores late at night. Points had to be calculated by hand — and inevitably someone would question the math. The bigger the group, the worse it got. Sharing a Google Sheet with 30 people, trying to lock cells so nobody accidentally overwrites someone else's prediction — it was a logistical nightmare.
We looked for existing solutions. Some were too complex, some were region-locked, others were full of ads and dark patterns. None of them felt right for a casual group of friends who just wanted to have fun. So we decided to build our own. Matchio was designed from day one around one simple idea: it should just work — beautifully, on any device, with automatic score updates and leaderboards that don't require a mathematics degree to understand.
World Cup 2026 is just the beginning. We're building Matchio to support all the major sports tournaments — football, basketball, hockey, tennis, NFL, and more. Soon, you'll be able to create fully custom Fantasy league formats and build your own bracket competitions from scratch.
